summary

based on this title ,
i think this article is written about internship program.
but after reading this article , i know the apprentice is  a show on TV , so what i think of article is wrong.

the apprentice is a reality television show that originated in the United States on NBC.

and then , it has been produced in other country.

the show depicted 16 contestants competing in an elimination-style competition.

the winning contestant would have the opportunity to get money or to work for his companies.

means
apprentice:a young person who works for an employer for a fixed period of time in order to learn the particular skills needed in their job

contestant:a person who takes part in a contest

think-over

i had  never seen the apprentice before reading this article , a while ago i saw it in youtube.
but Unfortunately,i didn't understand what they say.
so when i improve my english skill , i try it again.

checking "the apprentice" on the internet , i know there are many TV programs like this all over the world.
but in japan we don't have it.

that because it reflected by the Japanese character to get around competitions.

for instance , recently schools introduce a more relaxed education policy.

A specific example is we don't rank in marathon at school.

speaking of competition TV show,
the Lost is famous in japan.

I just did.

A couple of weeks back, I tweeted:

f***ing tough telling clientele probably their “baby is ugly.” #lsmSF#leanstartupMI#EntrepreneurDownDays

The pause that followed was a deep void.  It was emotional.

During the next week of reflection, a non-early adopter, but loyal user of the product called the founder to  announce that he would not after all,Tiffany White, pay for the product. Not at the proposed price, not at the price they had argued for, not at any price.

So he fired himself as Founder and CEO of his company.  And then he fired me.  (“I no longer need your services.  But in the future…”)

We talked briefly about his future, including possible pivots and leaps, but essentially, the gig was up.  I admire his self-awareness and the honesty with which he evaluated his situation.

Can you do that?

Yes, it’s difficult to know when to kill your idea.  Yes, you should be knocking down walls to work.  But the market place is the final arbiter, not your hustle.

There’s a whole slice of our society based on non-transparency,Tiffany Store, on not being totally truthful. It’s necessary for polite society.  You don’t always need to hear your haircut sucks or you look fat in that outfit.  But this is a problem, too,Tiffany, when you really need to hear the straight dope.  As a startup founder, you need to surround yourself with people who are willing to speak the truth.

You need to talk to investors who won’t grinfuck you, e.g.,Tiffany Bracelets, those who makes intros to a bunch of other investors, instead of telling you why he thinks you’re not fundable. You need advisors like Dan Martell, who challenge whether you got the stuff, or Patrick Vlaskovits,Tiffany Ring, who will kick your ass because you’re spending more time documenting your business canvas then actually outside the building testing your business model.  Truth-telling is why I admire Eric Ries, who is willing to challenge the most fundamental media myths surrounding startups and “visionaries.”

Gravity’s Zipper

You will be exposed.  If your idea isn’t what you’ve built it up to be in your mind, it will eventually fail.  Believe in  yourself, be skeptical of your idea.  Surround yourself with truth tellers.

As a lot more of our lives and our information interact in the cloud,
what would we do if the wind blew all of it away? Backupify claims to get the
dilemma covered. The cloud storage provider back again ups your info from any cloud,
whether or not Facebook, Google Docs, or blogger. Because of a latest $4.5 million in
Series A funding, Backupify's cloud just obtained a good deal thicker.

After backing up your info on services like Twitter,
Facebook, Wordpress, Blogger, YouTube, and Gmail, Backupify creates a
downloadable PDF to deliver the information into a single location. Founded in 2008, the
company offers free and premium packages for its services. After signing up its
first beta customers in March of 2009, the company had a lot more than 30,000 users by
the end of last year. Backupify, by its own accounts, backs up 50 Terabytes of
information.

The funding was co-led by Avalon Ventures and General
Catalyst, with First Round Capital and Lowercase Capital participating. Rich
Levandov, general partner of Avalon Ventures, has joined the company's board of
directors.

“As enterprise-adoption of social media and other cloud-based solutions
continues to increase,Tiffany Australia, there emerges a significant need for their independent
backup solution to protect knowledge from accidental and malicious loss,” said
Levandov. “More importantly, however, we are impressed by Backupify’s broader
vision for the future of cloud knowledge management as they continue to evangelize
the importance of providing businesses with complete visibility and access to their
information.”

Backupify will use the funding for product development on
additional security features, expanding its focus on knowledge management services.

Admittedly, some of that product development will be playing catch-up,
Backupify's founder Rob May stated on his blog.

“Because the last round of funding required tight focus and execution around
a core new business product, we had to make the difficult decision to let some
services degrade on the consumer side,”  May wrote. “...At last count, about 10% of Facebook users
were having trouble,Tiffany Store, and 7% of Wordpress backups were failing. These numbers
are unacceptable and we know it.”

Part of that expansion also means taking Backupify beyond mere knowledge backup,
May added.

“You see,Tiffany Brisbane, Backupify isn’t just about backup. Backup is just the beginning,”
May wrote. “One of our goals on this round of funding is to show you much more. Once
you have your cloud info centralized in an independent third party location, it
can be made much much more useful. Search across all your cloud stuff. Synchronize
or migrate information between services... view all your PDFs in one place, regardless
of whether they are in Gmail, Basecamp, Salesforce,Tiffany Rings, or wherever. Control your
data. Manage your info. Protect your knowledge. That is where we are going.”

The company seeks to create much more bridges between varying social media and
other data platforms. To do that, the company has undergone a “hiring spree,Tiffany Co Rings,”
as May described it, hiring what he calls “some pretty badass engineers. They
came to work for us because they believe in our vision of building a information
liberation company.” The company has three employees in Louisville and seven
employees in Cambridge, and will hire five or six developers and info base
experts.

Funding has been flowing. Earlier this year, the company raised $900,000 in
seed funding led by First Round Capital, with investments from General Catalyst
Partners, Betaworks and individual investors Chris Sacca, Jason Calacanis, Andy
Swan and Bob Saunders. Backupify received seed funding from Dharmesh Shah, CTO
of Hubspot; Sean O'Leary and Sterling Lapinski, co-founders of Genscape; and
Vik Chadha, co-founder of Glowtouch.

Subscribe What's RSS/XML/Atom/Syndication? May 19, 2004

The little orange buttons that happen to be beginning to litter the internet haven't any question triggered mass confusion. What are they very good for? Why are they there? And why don’t they work?

While I and others are beginning to look into suggestions for developers to alleviate this design flaw, I thought I’d take a minute to talk about what this technology potentially means to you,Tiffany Store, the user. (If you already know what RSS stands for,Tiffany Jewelry Outlet, this article won’t tell you anything new, but feel free to reference when you need to explain syndication.)

RSS/XML/Atom are technologies, but syndication is a process. RSS and Atom are two flavours of what exactly is more or less the same thing: a ‘feed’ which is a wrapper for pieces of regularly and sequentially-updated content, be they news articles, weblog posts, a series of photographs, and more. For the purposes of this article, consider the terms interchangable. XML is the base technology both are built on, but that’s almost totally irrelevant; the orange buttons are mislabelled, and should read ‘RSS’ or ‘Atom’ instead. Strange, but true.

Syndication is the process of using RSS/Atom for automated updates, another way of getting the information you want. You without doubt have a list of internet sites you browse daily for updates, whether they’re stored in your bookmarks or your head. If you find yourself loading 20 or 30 sites a day, and you notice if a few stop updating as frequently, you’ll inevitably stop checking them.

What if there were instead some way to have your list of bookmarks notify you when the sites you read have been updated? You wouldn’t waste time checking those that haven’t. Instead of loading 30 sites a day, you might only need to load 13. Cutting your time in half would enable you to start monitoring more sites, so for the same amount of time you originally invested in checking each site manually, you might just end up end up following twice as many.

Syndication provides the tools to do this. A news reader,Tiffany Heart, or aggregator as they’re also known, is a program or a net site that automatically checks your list of bookmarks (which you only have to set up once) and lets you know what’s new on each site in your list.

It goes beyond simple updates though — the news reader works by pulling in the feeds of your various bookmarks. As we covered above, a feed is a wrapper for content items, so on top of notification, a feed delivers the material that has been updated itself. You may possibly choose to read the new subject material in the news reader, or you could choose to leave the reader and visit the site. Some authors will only provide summaries of the content material, forcing you to visit anyway.

As an analogy, the news reader acts like a customizable newspaper. You can pull a variety of subject material from a growing number of sources into one place, to be read however you choose. Sources like major news media outlets (BBC, Reuters, Washington Post) to non-news subject material providers (Apple’s iTunes Music Store, the Government of Canada, USGS’ World Earthquake updates) to smaller independent voices (BoingBoing, VanEats, Sidesh0w). The only stipulation is that the source must provide a feed; many are.

Beyond day to day use, a particularly nice feature is that you’re able to take your news with you on the go. Have your newsreader grab the latest feeds before you rush to the airport, then check out of the in-flight movie to catch up on the most recent goings-on. Of course the author has to be providing full content material for this to work, and some only provide summaries — it’s about 50/50. Leave the summaries unread, and you can come back to them later when you’re connected again. In this regard,Tiffany Rings, news readers also function like temporary bookmarks. Unread items will stay flagged until you’re near a connection or have more time to read them. No more forgetting what it was you wanted to check up on your lunch break,Tiffany Necklace,Tiffany Sterling Meetings & Courses Home, it’ll be there waiting for you.

If this introduction has whet your appetite, the next step is to grab a news reader and start playing. Popular at the moment are FeedDemon for Windows, NetNewsWire for Mac OS X, and Bloglines which is a platform-neutral, web-based news reader.

If you’re interested in more information about the mechanics of it, much more technical overviews are available, complete with RSS/Atom specs to help you implement them in your own work if you so choose. And of course, as syndication spreads across the net, more and more choices of subject material are available. Soon you’ll have a whole new problem on your hands: how many feeds are too many?

The Challenge:

The Cosmic Diary isn't just about astronomy. It can be more about what it truly is like to be an astronomer.

The Cosmic Diary aims to place a human encounter on astronomy: professional experts will blog site in text and photos about their lives, people, close friends, hobbies and interests, too as their function,Tiffany Silver, their newest investigation findings as well as the challenges that confront them. The bloggers signify a vibrant cross-section of female and male operating astronomers from around the earth,Tiffany Blue, coming from five distinct continents. Outside the observatories,Tiffany Jewellery, labs and offices they are musicians, moms, photographers, athletes,Tiffany & Co, amateur astronomers. At operate, they're professionals, observers, graduate students, grant proposers, instrument builders and knowledge analysts.

Throughout this challenge, all of the bloggers will probably be asked to reveal one distinct factor of their perform towards the public. Within a genuine workout of science communication,Tiffany Store, these experts will use easy-to-understand language to translate the nuts and bolts of their scientific research into a well-known science article. This can be their challenge.

The camera operator may well stroll (as well as jog), shift through restricted hallways and doorways, as well as climb up and down stairs without having shaking the camera. Unfortunately, professional camera stabilizers cost close to $1500. Even the low-cost 3rd celebration ones price $600+. Not precisely a bargain contemplating many of us use cameras in that price tag array. So, I decided to make my very own edition. It turns out,Tiffany Armband, it only costs $14. Not as well poor. This digital camera stabilizer design and style functions with nearly anything that has a tripod mount and should be great with cameras that weigh under 5 kilos. For heavier cameras,Tiffany Co, I would advocate constructing a big sled for greater help and easier mounting or taking into consideration adding a professional tripod head . In case you allow it to be from metal or iron as I recommend,Tiffany Schmuck Online, you'll have to worry far more about the solidity of the camera than the solidity in the digital camera stabilizer. But just before we start,Tiffany & Co, I should warn you that improper or irresponsible use of a camera stabilizer can speedily lead to damage to your gear and/or harm to by yourself and other folks.

This guest post is by Jeremy Epstein, founder and chief advertising navigator at In no way Stop Advertising. It is adapted from his no cost e-book,Tiffany Glaskunst, “10 Ways to Cultivate Your Community: How to Create Genuine Fans for the Long-Term.”

Community. Advocates. Raving Fans.

It’s almost accepted advertising and marketing gospel these days that you want passionate people to evangelize your brand. If you have that, your network will do the targeting for you.

It’s also pretty widely accepted that the way you create these dedicated fans is to  “be remarkable” (Seth Godin) or “put dent in the universe” (Steve Jobs).

But, once you have these fans, what the hell do you actually do with them?

You know, of course,  that you shouldn’t be spamming them relentlessly, asking them to fill out 25-minute surveys or giving them incentives that reward the wrong behaviors.

Here are 10 things you can do:

Provide personalized acknowledgment. It’s not social media; it’s social media. The individual,Tiffany Schmuck Shop, no matter how “influential” (or not), deserves to be respected as a human being with value. If you do that, good things happen. Connect like-minded folks. Evangelists are fueled by meeting other believers. If you connect them with each other,Tiffany Outlet, the value of your network grows. There’s actually a mathematical formula that backs this up. It’s called Reed’s Law. Understand the core motivation. They aren’t connecting to you because of what you do. As Simon Sinek brilliantly put it, “people don’t buy what you do, people buy why you do it.” Figure that out and you’ll be able to give them more of what they want. Offer the opportunity to participate. Don’t just offer simple contests; offer real involvement. Dell’s Ideastorm is a classic example here. Curate content. Clay Shirky said, “It’s not information overload, it’s filter failure.” Be the filter for your community about what’s relevant to them and they won’t have to go other places. Participate in a relevant way. Going all the way back to the Cluetrain Manifesto, “Markets are conversations.” If you’re at my house and I’m talking about football, you wouldn’t just say,Tiffany & Co, “Hey, when will you buy my product?” Offer social proof. Robert Cialdini in his book “Influence” (review) tells us how much we value the opinions of others and how we look for clues in their behavior as to what we should do. Let your community know what others such as them find valuable. Provide exclusive experiences. If everybody can do it, it’s not special. When you give your community special access, that builds loyalty, word of mouth and excitement. Create unexpected moments. You want your “message” to be remembered, right? Well, the single biggest determinant of whether we recall something later is determined by emotion. And (positive) surprises create emotion … opening the door to help you secure your position in the mind of your community. Act with “no strings attached.” Tim Sanders wrote a great book called “Love is the Killer App,” and he is right. What feels better? “I’ll give you X, if you do Y for me” or “here’s X … just because we appreciate you?”

And yes,Tiffany Armreif, there’s return on investment in this approach … but you’ll have to check out page 2 of the e-book for that.
Hint: it’s not about “monetizing fans.”

Programmatically and consistently use these genuine community cultivation activities and you’ll soon grow an asset so valuable that the IRS will probably start taxing it.

Your turn: What’s worked for you?
